ABOUT THE
DEPARTMENT
The Information
Technology department of Dr.Sivanthi Aditanar college of Engineering
commenced in the year 2001 with an intake of 60 students. The mission of
our department is “To
meet the educational needs of our rural community and to ensure student
success by offering quality engineering education and to practice them
professionally in the fields of Information Technology “and the vision
is “Educating students to become competent software professionals and
valuable members of global and technological society”. |

The department is located in Information Technology block in 3494sq.m.
The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty. They are
whole heartedly deterministic and dedicative to mould the budding
engineers. |

FEATURES OF THE DEPARTMENT

papers presented by the faculty in various national conferences.

Organization
of faculty development programmes on latest developments like
Embedded system, matlab etc,.

One Day "National Conference on Advanced Computing" on
10/10/2009.

FACILITIES
The Department is furnished with two labs consisting of 100 P-IV systems
and 2 servers. The Servers are Compaq Presario and HP Proliant ML330.
All the Client
machines are attached to servers using structured cabling and modern
network switches. |
|
The labs are equipped with power backup using 45 KVA
UPS. The systems are loaded with latest software like Dot Net, J2ME,
Multimedia packages and Rational Rose software, etc,. Leased line
Internet facility is provided for students to be acquainted with current
information. The Department Library is a repository of all sorts of
knowledge and intellect. There are about a large volume of text books
related to Programming languages, SAP, Multimedia, Graphics, etc. The
students' project reports and University question papers are also
maintained for reference. |

ACHIEVEMENTS
Our IT Students
have won prizes in National Level Quiz Competitions and Paper
presentations. The University results also have been constantly good.
Our department had been recognized as a nodal centre for conducting Anna
University sponsored Faculty Development Programme in the year 2007. Our
placement record is splendid. Our students have been placed in various
corporates like Wipro, Verizon, TCS, Infosys, HCL, Hexaware, Satyam
etc. The in-house projects undertaken by our department are very much
useful in college automation and E-administration. Our students also
develop projects in the emerging technologies and research areas like
Mobile communication, Adhoc - Networks, Image Processing, Neural
Network, Intelligent Computing and Distributed OODBMS. Two
R&D Proposals submitted by our IT students have sanctioned by
Institution of Engineers in the Academic year 2009 - 2010.

SYMPOSIUM
ORGANIZED
|

BIOS conducted the “SACOSIUM-09” symposium on 18/02/2009 at Sivanthi
Auditorium in the morning session. Totally eleven papers are presented
from various college. Mr.B.Paramasivam Assistant professor CSE, NEC,
Kovilpatti was the jury of the session.

CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITIES
The department has
a Technical Association, The BIOS(Buoyant Infotechians of Sivanthi).
This Association is aimed at sharpening the variety of intellectual
interests of the students. The activities of association include Paper
Presentation, Technical Quiz, Seminars, Guest Lectures, Software
contest, Debugging and Campus awareness Programme. A magazine
containing technical articles and students’ creations is released every
year by the association. The students have membership in professional
societies like ISTE, IETE, CSI and ISTD to keep
themselves informed about the past and recent innovations and happenings
in the field.
